Much of the time, Neos is being used to store the data for searching later. Often this 'general' data is found in multiple different tabs within neos, or may require scrolling through several pages to get to the data needed. Efficiency is key so to have the general section customizable would allow a firm to place all the commonly searched fields in one spot at the very top of their screen without needing to scroll. This is especially important when accessing via a mobile device since there is no native neos app. For example- in our firm, having access to other key staff, (staff 2, 3, etc.) is needed hundreds of times per day which requires unnecessary searching and scrolling.
This would make the lives of reception and other staff responsible for taking client calls so much easier!
