Currently, Checklist items without a ref (MAN) are set without a due date and with a blank status. Our firm's users tend to filter the checklist by open items which filters out the blank status that these items get added with. Our firm has some checklist items that get a date added later or don't have a consistent date. We consider items without a due date to still be open items.
