Not sure if this is helpful, but since they marked this unlikely to implement, you may want to try using Ctrl+Mouse Scroll up/down to Zoom in and Out. Just hold the Ctrl button on your keyboard (CMD if using Mac) and scroll up or down with the scroll wheel on your mouse (or scroll area of your mouse pad).
